PUMA UK selects Indigo's RealTime

21 Aug 2008

Usain Bolt - World Record

Indigo Software Ltd, the supply chain software specialist, today announced that Puma UK Ltd has selected Indigo’s RealTime for Infor ERP System21, for its UK national distribution centre, in Batley, West Yorkshire.

Supplying a wide range of products to the Sports and related communities, Puma has been operating for sixty years in 2008.

Puma conducted an assessment of their existing inbound product receipt processes and procedures towards the end of 2007, concluding that their existing inventory management processes needed to be streamlined and improved to allow the business to continue its growth. The number and frequency of deliveries were increasing, and were becoming a bottleneck in checking of the deliveries and entering the data manually into Infor’s ERP System21 Aurora. Therefore Puma made the decision that during 2008, they would address these issues and streamline the flow of receipt data into System21.

As part of the supplier evaluation process Puma invited Indigo to conduct a strategic business review of their processes. Indigo confirmed its intention to propose their Realtime Receiving module for the first phase of the streamlining project.

Colin Hough, Business Development Manager at Indigo, commented – “Implementing a goods receiving module at Puma will add significant value to the overall process, everyone was working flat out at times to ensure the goods were recorded correctly and assigned to the correct purchase orders. Add into this process the complication of bonded stock and you can see that the increasing frequency and the sheer number of items on each shipment had the potential to overwhelm the Goods in process on a daily basis.

The receipting of goods is now all automated with Radio Data Terminals scanning in the relevant information. The process is faster, more accurate and has helped in streamlining the day to day goods inwards activity.”

John Sturch, Operation Manager and Project Sponsor commented – “ With the growth in the business that Puma is currently experiencing, it means that more product is arriving at the distribution centre than ever before. The need to accurately book in the items, bearing in mind the permutations of shape, style, colour and size is paramount. We believe that the Indigo Realtime solution will allow us to do that in a much more timely and accurate manner. We will be implementing RealTime during the second half of 2008 and are confident to recoup the investment in under 12 months.”

As part of the project , Puma have also invested in Intermec’s latest terminals and associated wireless backbone infrastructure. Intermec’s proven hardware has been part of Indigos solutions for over 17 years.
