Sandvik Selects Indigo's RealTime WMS

28 Sep 2009

Sandvik Mining Equipment

Indigo Software Ltd, the supply chain software specialist, today announced that one of the world leading equipment suppliers in the mining industry, Sandvik Mining and Construction has selected Indigo’s RealTime for Infor ERP System21 warehousing solution for its new state of the art manufacturing facility location in the Shanghai Jiading Industrial zone.
Sandvik Mining and Construction conducted an assessment of their existing systems, and concluded that their existing inventory location management system lacked the functionality required to meet the demands of its latest high tech assembly plant in China. The new assembly plant will be producing a large range of Sandvik’s latest mining equipment, ranging from rock crushers, through drill rigs to large loaders.

The decision was therefore made during 2008, to source a new WMS which would provide them with the increased functionality required to meet the ever changing delivery profiles as well as the capability to fully integrate with Infor ERP System21 Aurora.

As part of the selection process for a new WMS, Sandvik Mining and Construction conducted a number of in depth studies of the RealTime software and were taken on a number of Indigo Customer site visits to see the software working in a number of different environments. After completing the due diligence into how the system would work, the team were satisfied that the software would allow the business to have the level of inventory accuracy and production capability whilst also being simple and intuitive in use.

Colin Hough, Business Development Manager at Indigo, commented “The implementation of Interactive Warehousing at the Jiading site in China took place during the summer of 2009, and we had the software on the RDT’s localised in simplified Chinese to allow the operators to view the instructions in their native language. The operations team have built a very healthy reputation for quality and timeliness of deliveries in this sector and we are confident that the implementation of RealTime will allow them to continue to grow their business whilst being able to respond better to the market demands being placed upon them.”

Tero Lehtinen, Process Support Manager, Assembly at Sandvik, commented “The new assembly facility at Jiading is one of the key steps that Sandvik is taking to enhance its ability to support the Mining and Construction market in Asia and China, and therefore its efficiency and capability is of paramount importance. We selected Indigo as we felt that they had shown the capability to bring the speed and accuracy that we need in the warehouse, as well as the capability to issue to the production lines accurately and in time. We also felt with Indigo being the world wide partner for System21 warehousing and automation, they were best placed to support us in this venture going forward”
Along with the RealTime suite of software SMC have also purchased Intermec’s latest Radio Data Terminals and associated wireless backbone infrastructure. Intermec’s proven hardware has been part of Indigo’s solutions for over 18 years.
